Headstrong Amplifiers VerbroVibe 1x15 in Black Tolex — hand-wired 35-watt replica of the legendary 1963 Fender 6G16 Brown Vibroverb, featuring tube-driven reverb, bias-vary tremolo, and a custom 1x15 speaker configuration currently with a 12" speaker adapter ring.

LA Vintage Gear is proud to offer this Headstrong VerbroVibe 1x15, a boutique, hand-wired recreation of the legendary 1963 Fender 6G16 Brown Vibroverb. This particular example is finished in Black Tolex and features a 1x15 speaker baffle fitted with a 12" adapter ring, rather than the original 6G16's traditional 2x10 configuration.

The VerbroVibe is based on one of Fender's most distinctive early brown-panel amplifier circuits. The original 1963 Fender Vibroverb 6G16 was produced for only a little over a year and is historically significant as the first Fender amplifier to incorporate reverb into its circuit. Headstrong's version faithfully recreates the fundamental architecture of that rare amplifier while offering the practicality of a modern hand-built boutique amp.

1963 Fender 6G16 Brown Vibroverb Circuit

The Fender 6G16 Brown Vibroverb occupies a particularly important place in Fender amplifier history. Introduced in 1963 and produced for only a relatively short period, it was Fender's first amplifier with built-in reverb.

Unlike the later black-panel Vibroverb, the 6G16 used a distinctive bias-vary tremolo circuit, where the tremolo effect is created by modulating the bias of the power tubes. This produces a particularly smooth, organic form of tremolo that is highly prized by vintage Fender enthusiasts.

The original Brown Vibroverb was approximately 35 watts and used a pair of 5881/6L6-family power tubes. Its circuit sits at an interesting point between the earlier Brown-era Fender amplifiers and the later Blackface designs, giving it a distinctive tonal character of its own.
The VerbroVibe 1x15 Configuration
One of the most appealing features of this particular VerbroVibe is its 1x15 speaker configuration.

The original 1963 6G16 Vibroverb used two 10-inch speakers, but Headstrong has offered the VerbroVibe in multiple speaker configurations, including 1x15, allowing players to tailor the amplifier's projection and low-frequency response. Headstrong specifically lists the 1x15 as one of its VerbroVibe configurations.

The 15-inch format gives the amp a somewhat different presentation than the traditional 2x10 Vibroverb configuration, with the larger speaker providing a fuller, broader sound and strong low-end response while retaining the essential character of the 6G16 circuit.

This makes the 1x15 VerbroVibe particularly appealing to players who want the rare Brown Vibroverb sound but prefer the feel and projection of a single 15-inch speaker.
Tube Reverb & Bias-Vary Tremolo
The VerbroVibe's tube-driven spring reverb is one of its defining characteristics.

The 1963 6G16 was historically significant for being Fender's first amplifier with onboard reverb, and the unique reverb circuit contributes substantially to the personality of the amp.

The bias-vary tremolo is equally distinctive. Rather than using the later optical tremolo approach found in many Blackface Fender amplifiers, the 6G16 modulates the power-tube bias to create the effect.

The combination of tube reverb and bias-vary tremolo gives the VerbroVibe a particularly organic and dimensional sound, making it an excellent amplifier for blues, roots, Americana, surf, classic rock, and vintage-style guitar tones.
Hand-Wired Boutique Construction
Headstrong Amplifiers specializes in hand-wired recreations and original designs based on classic Fender amplifier circuits. The VerbroVibe is built around the original 6G16 architecture, using a finger-jointed pine cabinet and hand-wired construction.

This is not simply a modern amplifier borrowing the name of a vintage Fender. It is a carefully constructed interpretation of a historically important circuit that has become increasingly difficult and expensive to find in original form.
Why the VerbroVibe Is Special
The 1963 Fender Brown Vibroverb is one of the rarer and more distinctive vintage Fender amplifier designs. Fender produced the original 6G16 for only a little over a year, and the amplifier has become highly sought after by collectors and players who appreciate the Brown-era Fender sound.

The Headstrong VerbroVibe provides an opportunity to experience that circuit without the rarity, cost, and potential maintenance concerns associated with an original 1963 Vibroverb.

This particular 1x15 Black Tolex configuration makes the amp even more distinctive, combining the classic 6G16 circuit with a practical single-15-inch speaker format.
