Vintage Supro Super Short-Scale Guitar – Made in Chicago

A very cool and increasingly hard-to-find vintage Supro Super short-scale guitar, built in Chicago and closely related to the National Westwood. The two models share much of the same construction and design, with the primary difference being the control knobs.

This guitar has the classic fat, baseball-bat style neck, which remains straight, along with great action and very comfortable playability. There is some minor fret wear and a couple of small dings consistent with its age, but overall the guitar is remarkably clean for a vintage instrument.

It features a single Ralph Keller-designed “Super-Power Alnico” single-coil pickup, which has a distinctive vintage voice and plenty of character. The pickup and electronics are original and functioning properly.

The guitar retains its original open-back 3-on-a-plate Kluson tuners, which are all functioning as they should. All parts are original and the instrument has not been modified.

It also comes with a vintage hard-shell case that fits the guitar perfectly. I cannot confirm that this is the original case it was shipped with, but it is an excellent period-style case and a significant upgrade from the particle-board cases commonly found with these guitars.

Overall, this is a particularly interesting vintage Supro and a great example for anyone who appreciates early American-made instruments. It has the look, feel, and unmistakable character that make these Chicago-built Supros so special.
