The Sears Silvertone Model 1484 “Twin Twelve” is famous for its raw, garage-rock overdrive and has been heavily used by prominent alternative and rock musicians including Jack White, Beck, Peter Townsend, and Mark Knopfler. Manufactured by Danelecto for Sears.

This 99.9% original example has the serial number 185.11040 with speaker/pot codes pointing to a build date of late ‘63 or early’64.

The six Silvertone branded tubes are the originals. The two Sovtek 6CG7s may also be original but I can not confirm that. It may be that Silvertone did not have a branded 6CG7 so they used Sovtek.(see pics). The original footswitch is also included.

Take a close look at the circuit pics. The components and wiring look like they were installed yesterday! No dust, residue, not a speck. But, even though all the electrolytic caps look brand new they are in fact over 60 years old and should be replaced (along with the two prong powercord) unless you are just buying this one for your museum. Upon opening the speaker cabinet we find that there are two mint looking Jensen Special Design C12Qs dated the 48th week of 1963. Marked 4024 “100”.

The “convenience” receptacle plug on the rear of the chassis is missing. That’s why I didn’t give this amp stack a 100% grade. I did not see any terminated wiring for it so I’m not sure if it was removed very early on or perhaps never originally installed. See photo. Other than that, the amp is in remarkable condition with the faceplate, knobs, and switches present and looking fantastic. A couple of the pots will need some service as they are a bit scratchy. I hit them with some F5 which improved them greatly but they will need another shot. Also there is a layer of dust on top of the chassis around the tubes as you might expect with a 60 year old amp. I believe this amp to be in beautiful “collector” grade. Don’t let it get away!
