Blüthner Upright Piano – Leipzig, c.1893 – Walnut – 85 Keys

A beautiful antique Blüthner upright piano, manufactured by Julius Blüthner in Leipzig, Germany, dating from approximately 1893.

The piano carries the original BLÜTHNER LEIPZIG markings and has serial number 36951, placing it firmly in the late 19th century.

This is a particularly attractive example, with a richly figured walnut cabinet, elaborate Victorian detailing, turned columns and decorative mouldings. It has a wonderful period appearance and would make an impressive addition to a home as both a musical instrument and an important piece of antique furniture.

Condition – Very Good Antique Condition

Considering that this piano is approximately 130 years old, it is in remarkably good overall cosmetic condition.

The beautiful figured walnut cabinet retains its original character, with the decorative mouldings, turned columns, black detailing and other architectural features all present. The veneer and finish remain particularly attractive, with the usual minor marks, scratches and signs of age one would expect from an instrument of this period.

The keyboard is remarkably complete and presentable, and the internal mechanism appears substantially complete and well preserved for its age.

There is no obvious major damage to the cabinet visible in the photographs.

Please note that this is an antique instrument and I have not represented it as recently restored or concert-ready. The current condition of the tuning, action regulation, soundboard, bridges, strings and tonal performance should be assessed by the purchaser or their piano technician. It is therefore being sold in its present condition.

A Genuine Antique Blüthner

The serial number 36951 and the original Blüthner Leipzig markings make this a particularly interesting early Blüthner.

The combination of its c.1893 date, original 85-key keyboard, substantial Victorian walnut cabinet and surviving original mechanism makes it a lovely example of late-19th-century German piano making.

This would suit someone looking for an authentic antique Blüthner for playing, sympathetic restoration or simply as a beautiful piece of Victorian furniture.

Collection only. Due to the age, size and weight of the instrument, the buyer will need to arrange suitable professional piano removal and transportation.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
