For sale is a Roland W-30 with upgrades and extras. The unit was used in a music studio to record mostly special effects, drum sounds and vocal phrases.
This is my second unit; the first one got sold already.
The upgrades include:
- SCSI controller chip to enable SCSI communications to hard drives, CD-ROM drives, etc.
- Replacement of original LCD display with LED-backlight blue display. Electro-Luminiscent (EL) circuitry has been disabled as well to eliminate high-frequency noise created by the EL transformer.
- All tactile push buttons have been upgraded with brand new ones.
- Power socket was upgraded from a two-prong socket to an IEC 60320 C-14 socket with ground (3 prong).
Extras include:
- External Plextor CD-ROM drive with CD-ROM caddy. There are only a few CD-ROM drives that are compatible with the W-30 that allow reading of CD-ROMs libraries made for the Roland W-30 and this is one of them.
- EPSON IOMEGA 100MB external SCSI ZIP drive. This is an external zip drive that allows loading and saving of sounds and sequences.
- ZULUSCSI MINI SCSI drive emulator with 16GB micro-SD card. This unit allows for addition of virtual SCSI hard drives to the Roland W-30, each 80MB in size per the Roland W-30 specification. There are currently four (4) virtual drive images on the micro-SD card.
- Two (2) sounds libraries CD-ROMs compatible with the Roland W-30.
- Three (3) IOMEGA ZIP disks with sound libraries compatible with the Roland W-30.
- Eleven (11) 3.5" floppy disks compatible with the Roland W-30 with sounds, including two (2) boot disks (one of them is original). Nine (9) of the disks are sound libraries from MIDI MARK.
- Printed Roland W-30 manual in binder.
- SCSI cables to connect all the above devices to the Roland W-30.
- Power cables for all devices described above.
- Carrying case for the Roland W-30. The carrying case show sign of age, mostly the interior foam, but serves as a good protection for the Roland W-30 when shipped. The Roland W-30 will be wrapped in protective plastic film to keep any dust out.
The Roland W-30 currently boots up directly from the ZULUSCSI MINI SCSI drive emulator, which is drastically faster than booting from a floppy drive. The current SCSI configuration allows the following SCSI drive setup: four (4) virtual drives in the ZULUSCSI MINI emulator, SCSI CD-ROM unit (Plextor CD-ROM drive) and SCSI ZIP drive.
Audio sampling functions have been tested by sampling sounds from a Yamaha SY-77 output.
MIDI functions tested included playing a Yamaha SY-77 from the Roland W-30 and playing the Roland W-30 sounds from the Yamaha SY-77.
The Roland W-30 is being sold AS-IS with no warranties and no returns due to its age, but it was fully functional at the time of this post.
NOTE:Shipping to the contiguous states of the continental Unites States of America *ONLY*. Shipping done via FedEx.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you and good luck!
