Zildjian 22" Trans Stamp Type 4 ride-sizzler cymbal @2651 gm. Slightly over-sized that measures up to 22-3/16" at the widest part. I measured the medium cup bell at 5-1/4" though the depth at approx 7/8" doesn't correlate, should only be 3/4". So I'm puzzled by that. Bell hole is right around 1/2" so certainly enlarged a bit or worn to that size. It sort of looks hand reamed to that larger size imo....will fit modern stands.

Brilliant or semi-reflective finish though the deeper patina negates some of that in the outer bow areas. 4 of 8 rivets remaining, each of those having 3 of the original 6 segmented tabs. Spacing is very symmetric with all of the holes about 2-5/8" inward from the edge. Rivet holes show the standard Zildjian 3/16" diameter. Very original cymbal with deeper patina, especially around the edges. No signs of cleaning imo. A very clean specimen overall.

Smooth edges, so no flea bites, cracks, dents, dings. Some very faint edge waves only mentioned to say it's not perfectly straight "all" the way around....and very few are. Some slight warping too which is very much the norm for 22 trans stamps. I've yet to see a 22 trans stamp w/o warping. Most don't bother to mention it. This is warped in 2 quadrants at distance off the table top of 0.040 to 0.045". I consider that better than average.....and anything under 0.035" is a very straight/flat cymbal. Warping rarely affects the tone unless it's really severe.

No need to spend $750-$1000 for one of these in a medium to heavier weight when they show up much cheaper from time to time. You can pretty much figure how they will sound based on the weight, bell type/size, and which type trans stamp (ie 1, 2, 3, 4). All 4 types sound generally different. Just like with Old K Istanbuls from the 40's to 50's, not all trans stamps from that same era are built the same. The sound changes every 2-3 yrs or so. Most of the 22's are of the type 3/4. And some of the type 1's I see listed are actually type 3/4's. The type 3/4's are generally thought to be from the early to mid-1950's.

This is very nice sounding cymbal: dark, dry, cutting, and crashes pretty well for a classic medium weight. I'd love to hear this with only 0-2 rivets as it might sound even better. But as a general rule, I won't mess with original style rivets on old A's. They deserve to remain as original as possible. See video.
