The Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood Reissue is part of the Inspired by Gibson Custom Collection and is a faithful reproduction of the iconic SJ-200, crafted in the Gibson Acoustic workshops in Bozeman, Montana, and offered at a significantly more accessible price.
Introduced in 1937, the SJ-200 quickly earned the title of "King of the Flat-Tops" due to its powerful sound, exceptional projection, and majestic stage presence. Rare pre-war models featuring rosewood back and sides are now among the most sought-after by collectors, symbolizing an era when very few instruments were produced due to the economic hardships following the Great Depression.
The top is made of artificially aged solid spruce, paired with solid rosewood back and sides, and a two-piece maple neck with a round "D" profile.
The ebony fingerboard provides a natural and comfortable playability and is enhanced by "Graduated Crown" inlays made of mother-of-pearl.
To meet the needs of modern guitarists, the Epiphone Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood Reissue is equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC system featuring a piezo under-saddle pickup and an active preamp with volume and tone controls mounted in the soundhole, making it stage and studio ready.
Completing the package are refined aesthetic details, including the Gibson-style “open book” headstock with mother-of-pearl logos, the Moustache™ bridge, and a vintage-style decorated pickguard.
