The Deluxe Big Muff is a rather unusual combination of a Big Muff and an integrated compressor, manufactured in New York starting in 1978. It retains the thick, sustaining and creamy fuzz sound of the classic Big Muff, while adding a dedicated compression section with its own controls, allowing for a denser, longer and more controlled sound. The first EH-1330 version notably features a Blend switch for mixing the compressed/fuzzed signal with the direct signal, while later EH-3053/3054 versions use a Series/Parallel system that changes the way the compressor and fuzz are chained. Both sections have separate controls, and the circuit uses operational amplifiers rather than the transistors found in certain versions of the classic Big Muff. Produced in relatively limited numbers and now quite rare, it is sought after for its thick fuzz tones, long sustain, and above all its unusual combination of fuzz and compression. It is also an interesting choice for bass players and keyboardists, not just guitarists.
