Hand-Wired Princeton Reverb Custom – Fender Faceplate and Original Looks – Blackface Boutique One-Off

Building guitar amps is a passion of mine, and we play them ourselves in our cover band. Whenever one is finished, I list it right here. Once it sells, I build the next one, simply because I enjoy it. You're buying exactly the amp shown, and it's available immediately.

Built into a steel chassis for the best possible grounding, with an original Blackface faceplate, logo, handle and chassis straps. Finished in the classic Blackface look with witch-hat knobs – or, at no extra charge, in the elegant tuxedo look with cream-colored Fender knobs (see example photo).

Fully hand-wired on an eyelet board. I use only high-quality components that have proven themselves in tone, performance and longevity among amp techs. The result is an amp that sounds livelier and more pleasing than one built with the usual stock parts, which are chosen purely to maximize profit. It also features Hammond transformers, robust and harmonically rich tubes, Belton sockets and a Jensen speaker for that signature vintage Fender sound.

I deliberately stick with a 10", because the size of the Princeton cabinet is optimized for it and delivers the best projection. A 12" in the same cabinet would color the sound, no matter how you adjust the circuit.

What sets it apart from the stock Princeton:

  • Fixed bias with an adjustable bias pot – more control over the amp's tone and behavior, plus hassle-free tube changes.
  • Master Volume – great to play even at low living-room levels, with a smooth, even taper. Overdriven tones are possible even at bedroom volume. Turned all the way up, the classic Princeton character stays intact.
  • Adjustable Middle pot – from the classic Fender scoop through the original Princeton range to full mids and mid-boost / raw sounds. Flexibility no stock Princeton offers.
  • Optimized reverb – usable and finely adjustable across the full 0–10 range, from subtle to surfy. Just like the Blackface original.
  • Anti-blocking-distortion mod – the Princeton sounds less overwhelmed under hard overdrive.
  • More robust power section – your power tubes last longer and run more safely.
  • Modified tremolo – a little slower and deeper, very musical.
  • The cabinet on this particular amp is made of laminated pine – light, sturdy and nicely resonant, with an open, spacious projection.
  • Eyelet board instead of PCB. The printed traces on Fender's PCBs break down over time, develop cracks, cause audible operating noise and lead to early contact problems. An eyelet board can be used and serviced almost indefinitely – there's a reason the old original Fender amps with eyelet boards are still around.

A footswitch for reverb and tremolo is included. Shipping available throughout Europe.

This amp is built to give you lasting enjoyment and to be passed down. Hand-wired amps like this one simply can't be compared to mass-produced, profit-driven reissues that match the originals neither in tone nor in build. Every single component is chosen for the best quality and tone for its role. Every connection is first made mechanically and then hand-soldered, carefully assembled and checked point by point – no assembly line, no PCB, no compromises.

I offer a voluntary 1-year warranty on the circuit (excluding wear parts such as tubes and speaker), and I'm happy to help with questions, service or custom modifications well beyond that.

You're welcome to come try the amp with various guitars at my place in Stuttgart.

Not sure whether the amp is right for you? You can try it for 14 days. If it's not for you, simply send it back – you'd only cover shipping both ways plus €100.

About me: I'm a hobbyist who has spent years building, servicing, and restoring guitar amplifiers — because I genuinely enjoy it. I'm not a registered business. I build these amps for myself, list them once they're finished, and play them with my cover band until they find a new home. Once one sells, I start the next — because the building is the point.
