Gibson Collector’s Choice #26 — the “Whitford Burst”
Gibson Collector’s Choice #26 is one of the more desirable Gibson Custom Shop reissues from the Collector’s Choice series. It is a highly detailed recreation of Brad Whitford’s personal 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, serial 9-0653, commonly called the “Whitford Burst.” It was released in 2014.
Whitford's original '59 was a working guitar that he used extensively during Aerosmith's rise. Rather than making a generic “1959 Les Paul,” Gibson had access to the actual guitar and attempted to reproduce that individual instrument—including its neck shape, finish fade, wear, construction details and pickup characteristics.
