Marshall 1986 50W Bass Head (from 1973) with Original 2x12 McKenzie Cabinet from same era

For sale is a 1973 Marshall 1986 50W Bass Head – a genuine vintage amplifier in excellent condition, especially considering it turns 53 years old on December 25th.

As shown in the photos, the amp has been remarkably well preserved. The front panel still has the holes from a previous master volume modification, which has since been completely removed. The amplifier has been restored to its original circuit, with no original components removed. Only the added parts from the old modification were taken out during the restoration.

The amplifier was professionally serviced approximately one year ago and works flawlessly. During the service, the original green 10% tolerance resistors, which had begun to deteriorate, were replaced with high-quality 5% ceramic resistors for improved long-term reliability. At the same time, a fresh matched set of JJ E34L power tubes was installed, increasing the output slightly to around 55–60 watts. The result is a more dynamic, punchier, and slightly hotter tone than the original 50-watt specification.

The sound remains unmistakably classic Marshall, but when you turn it up, it delivers that sought-after Plexi-style growl and bite, with extra punch in both the low end and midrange. It offers a wide tonal range and plenty of flexibility to shape your sound exactly the way you want.

Being a genuine 1970s Marshall, it is noticeably louder and more powerful than many modern 50-watt amplifiers.

Included is the original 2x12 “Bass Bottom” cabinet, loaded with McKenzie speakers from approximately the same year.
