Unlike many compressors, the Fat General MKII is centered around the concept of parallel compression, blending the affected and unaffected signals to create a sound that's larger than the sum of its parts. There are two main modes of operation which provide very different kinds compression sounds. Blend mode allows you to define the exact amount of compressed signal in your sound, turning the Balance knob into a wet/dry control, with the sound being 100% wet when Balance is turned completely clockwise, and visa versa. When set to Juicy mode, the compressor is automatically fixed to a 90% wet, 10% dry configuration, giving your sound the perfect level of punch.

The Sustain control allows you to increase or decrease the subtleness of compression even further, with the signal being fully compressed when turned fully clockwise, and acting more as a gentle smoothing effect when turned counterclockwise. Leaving this knob somewhere in the middle offers more of a "sweet spot" sound, which is especially useful when playing with a full band. The Treble knob allows you to add a subtle (or not so subtle) sparkle to your sound, which when combined with the compression circuits gives your signal a level of refinement and polish that wouldn't exist otherwise.
