More than 10 years ago, a late drummer friend of mine had an acquaintance that worked at the DW factory in Oxnard California. We were able to retrieve prototype timeless timber hardware when DW was designing the Romanian Oak set. This prototype hardware is similar to the antique bronze hardware that DW selected for the Romanian Oak sets but the prototype hardware has more of a gold tint. The hardware plating is inconsistent in some areas but it has a really cool aged look to it.
To compliment the hardware, I used a thick 7”x14” solid exotic zebrawood shell and equipped it with wood hoops, to use the prototype claws available.
Final results is an extremely unique, one of a kind snare drum that is fully functional and sounds incredible.
