Selling my TFPro P38 “Edward the Compressor+”, the rare blue stereo optical mastering compressor from Ted Fletcher / TFPro.
This is a very cool, no-longer-produced piece of analog outboard: part stereo bus compressor, part mastering glue box, part width tool, and part tone-shaping “secret weapon.” It’s the kind of unit that can sit gently across a mix for subtle cohesion, or be pushed harder for character, movement, and that creamy optical squeeze.
Why it’s special
The P38 gives you four compression characters in one analog stereo unit:
- VCA-style compression — clean, controlled, modern bus compression
- 1176-style mode — more punch, energy, and movement
- LA-2A-style mode — smoother optical leveling feel
- Green Box / Joemeek SC-2-inspired mode — thicker, vibier, classic Ted Fletcher character
On top of the compressor section, it also includes a stereo width control, balance control, transient / program-dependent release behavior, and a soft clip function for adding a little extra analog density and level.
Sound & use
This is excellent on:
- Mix bus / stereo bus
- Mastering chains
- Drum bus
- Parallel compression
- Synths and electronic music
- Full mixes that need glue, weight, and width
It can do subtle “barely there” glue, but it also has enough personality to become part of the sound. The stereo width section is especially useful for adding dimension without needing another dedicated processor in the chain.
Condition
Fully working and sounding great.
Please check the photos carefully for cosmetic condition. This is a used analog rack unit, but it has been treated with care in a studio environment.
Included
- TFPro P38 “Edward the Compressor+”
- Power cable
Why I’m selling
I’m simplifying / reshuffling the studio setup, and this deserves to be used instead of sitting in a rack looking mysterious and blue.
A rare and very musical analog processor for someone who wants proper stereo bus glue, optical character, width control, and a bit of Ted Fletcher magic in one box.
