Up for sale is a stunning, one-of-a-kind custom build by luthier Aaron Shay. This "Gypsy" model is a masterful blend of vintage aesthetic—paying homage to early 50s Surf Green finishes—and modern, high-performance boutique specs.
The guitar features a one-piece White Limba (Korina) body, providing a resonant, harmonically rich foundation that sits perfectly between the "snap" of a Strat and the "growl" of a Les Paul.
Key Design Features:
- One-Piece Neck & Fingerboard: The neck is carved from a single piece of maple (no separate fingerboard) for maximum vibrational transfer, stabilized with a beautiful Koa strip on the back.
- Artisan Inlays: Custom copper "Gypsy Jazz" style circular inlays on the fretboard and side dots. The 12th fret inlay is oversized for a classic look.
- Hand-Rubbed Finish: The neck is finished with a natural oil and beeswax mixture, providing an incredibly fast, "woody" feel that doesn't get sticky. The headstock features a gloss clear coat.
- The "Body-Link" Plug: A signature Aaron Shay touch—the headstock features a wood plug taken directly from the guitar's specific body wood, physically connecting the neck and body as a matched pair.
Hard-Hitting Hardware:
- Pickups: Seymour Duncan "Hot Rodded" Humbucker set (JB SH-4 in the bridge, Jazz SH-2 in the neck). A legendary pairing for everything from fusion to hard rock.
- Nut & Inlays: Unique 6-piece copper alloy nut, deeply seated for incredible tuning stability and sustain.
- Frets: Long-lasting Stainless Steel frets.
- Tuners: Hipshot Locking Tuners with a rear-facing orientation (reminiscent of classical/acoustic guitars) for a sleek, modern headstock profile.
- Electronics: Premium CTS pots and a Switchcraft toggle. The master tone circuit is highly responsive, capable of dialing in thick, dark jazz tones or wide-open rock clarity.
Condition: Excellent condition. This guitar has been kept in a humidity-controlled environment. The Surf Green finish is an exact match for the classic 1950s automotive color. Comes packed in a Brand New Thomann gig bag.
Why I’m Selling: Liquidating select boutique pieces to fund new gear. This is a rare opportunity to own a hand-made instrument that defies "assembly line" logic.
