Rare and Unique! Blue version Roland MC-500 mkII/mkIII - Micro Composer - SUPER MRC v. 2.0

This project started with the idea that it should be possible to move the OS (version 2.0) in its EPROM. This would effectively upgrade the original Roland MC-500 mkII to an Roland MC-500 mkIII, with everything that this entails.

This project is compatible only with Roland MC-500 mkII and NOT with Roland MC-500 (mkI). The memory kit was tested with both the regular floppy drive and with a GOTEK USB drive.

The machine was fully tested and it is in a very good condition, given its age.

The 220V connector has been replaced with a PC one that has the ground attached.

The BIOS was upgraded from version 1.04 to 1.05 to allow using memories of up to 4MB.

The original memories (6x 256KB DRAM 262,144 - word) were replaced with 6x 4MB DRAM (4,194,304 - word).

The original screen was replaced with a standard LCD.

We have made these upgrades with a view to use the new, larger memories to load the OS without needing a floppy. Work on this project both hardware and software wise is still in progress, without a firm delivery date.

I am hoping to finance the development by selling as many memory replacement kits as possible and fully fitted machines. For just the memory replacement kit I am already at the version 1.7 - it takes a lot of money and a lot of time to move through iterations.

Anybody who is interested can also buy the standalone memory replacement kits (without the Roland MC-500 mkII itself).

Please note that the Operating System must be loaded from a floppy disk.

The machine will be sent with a bonus floppy disk - Super MRC version 2.0

A future project is to do the same for the Roland MC300 and Roland MC500.
