Up for sale is another very cool looking guitar: a well played 1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom, cherry sunburst color. 

While all of our guitars are "in excellent to almost mint condition", or "part of a large private collection that only includes highly collectible and pristine instruments" etc... well, this one is not, cosmetically speaking.  

This Les Paul Custom has a very cool heavy relic look, while being structurally sound.  The relicing is 100% absolutely natural.  Think "real life" Murphy lab... If you are into those guitars, this one is for you.  

The reason it looks like that is that it's been played a lot, the reason it's been played a lot is because its sounds and plays great.  We agree that this guitar seems cosmetically challenging, but please bear in mind it's a proper instrument with a fantastic playability. This is due to the pro refret and setup the guitar had. In other words, this guitar is tailored for a musician that prioritizes sound and playability over collectability.

This guitar is all stock but for:
- A pro refret.  There is plenty of life in the new frets.
- Gotoh bridge.  The original bridge is supplied with the guitar.  The slot on the saddle of the G string of the original bridge is not located in the middle of the saddle, so we recommend you do not reinstall the original bridge (the best thing to do is to change the G string saddle, should you want to put it back).
- Volume pots have been changed, they are newer Gibson pots.  The four controls knobs, however, are original to the guitar.
- The round backplate for the switch is a repro.

Minor cosmetic flaws that do not affect the playability at all:
- Tiny chip on the headstock.
- Crack line where the 2 lower pieces of the top join, next to the control knobs.  Has not moved in years.
- 2 very small filled holes on the top, between the bridge and the bridge pickup.  The first owner had installed a synth system (that was not connected to the electrics of the guitar, but that was cello taped on the bottom top of the guitar, thanks God).
- Scratches on the back.
- Part of the pu switch tip is missing.  Does not affect the functioning of the switch at all.

Apart from this, the rest of the guitar is fully original:  color, finish, pickups, wiring, plastic parts, tailpiece, tuners, pickguard etc... Tone pots are dated 24th and 27th week of 1979 (1377924 and 1377927) and the volume pots are Gibson stamped.  Serial number is 728896xx.  Pickups are dated Sept 11 1979 and Aug 24 1979.

The guitar is set up: neck is straight, the truss rod functions well and the action is low.  The guitar is set-up with 10-46.

It comes with a Gibson Chainsaw (2 functioning latches, 1 latch missing)
