The Phase 90 is a legendary analog phaser and was even the first effect ever released by MXR in the mid-1970s. This M101 version captures the character of the late-1970s “Block Logo” Phase 90, with its warm, thick and instantly recognizable sweep, ranging from a subtle, spacious modulation to a much more pronounced and swirling effect. Its biggest strength is its simplicity: a single Speed control adjusts the sweep rate, making it extremely intuitive to use. It features a 100% analog circuit with selected FET transistors, and its sound is strongly associated with 1970s and ’80s rock, particularly Eddie Van Halen’s iconic phaser tone. It features hardwire bypass, an LED, and can run on a 9V battery or 9V power supply, with a power consumption of approximately 5 mA. The M101 is also highly versatile, working equally well with bass, keyboards and even vocals. It is worth noting that the M101 is not an exact recreation of the very first 1974 “Script Logo” model: its Block Logo circuit produces a more pronounced and aggressive phasing effect.
