A Martin D28, but with a twist: this was a special custom order from 1999!The main difference lies in the top wood. The guitar features an Engelmann spruce top—something usually found only on limited editions or Martin Custom Shop models. It is considered a more exclusive tonewood within the Martin range, and Engelmann is actually quite scarce. It also offers a different character compared to a standard D28!For instance, the sound is warmer and much more responsive than that of an average D28. The guitar projects beautifully even with a light touch and resonates wonderfully. The tone sits somewhere between Sitka spruce and cedar! It is a very special sound that isn't just for heavy strummers; Engelmann has slightly less headroom, so it tends to break up a bit sooner when played very hard. Otherwise, the guitar sounds beautifully balanced—perhaps slightly less "tight" than a standard D28—with deep, round bass frequencies and sillysmooth highs.The guitar is in absolute top condition. When viewed in the right light, you can see some light finish checking, but from the front, it looks brand new! It comes with the original case and the custom specification sheet for this specific instrument.Naturally, the guitar has been perfectly set up; it features an excellent neck angle, comfortable low action, and flawless fretwork.
