As the driving force behind Polyphia, he has played a major role in pushing back the boundaries between metal, progressive rock, pop, electronic music and classical influences, with a highly melodic, technical and instantly recognizable playing style. His collaboration with Ibanez was therefore a natural fit: the Japanese brand has been working with some of the most innovative guitarists for decades and has developed genuine expertise in designing instruments built around modern playing techniques.The TOD10N is undoubtedly one of the most original guitars in the Ibanez lineup. Rather than simply borrowing the traditional codes of the classical guitar, it features a design specifically developed around Tim Henson’s playing style and contemporary techniques. Its extremely thin and compact FRH body, combined with a solid Sitka spruce top and sapele back and sides, provides exceptional comfort and accessibility while retaining a strong and distinctive acoustic character.The ultra-thin body is one of the major strengths of this TOD10N nylon. It immediately feels comfortable, lightweight and highly enjoyable to play, whether seated or standing. The nyatoh neck with its C profile and 648 mm scale length provides a familiar feel for electric guitarists and makes movement across the fingerboard considerably easier. With 22 frets, a 400 mm radius and a 46 mm nut width, the ergonomics are much closer to those of a modern guitar than those of a traditional nylon-string instrument.Ibanez has also paid particular attention to the instrument’s projection and response with its Fan Bracing, a fan-bracing design inspired by classical guitar construction. The solid Sitka spruce top delivers excellent definition, dynamics and a precise response, while the sapele contributes to a balanced, clear tone with plenty of warmth. This combination is particularly well suited to Tim Henson’s playing techniques: arpeggios, tapping, percussive body techniques, complex chords and melodic lines can all be expressed with remarkable precision.Visually, it is difficult to remain indifferent! The absence of a traditional soundhole leaves the spotlight on the beautiful top and the Tree of Death inlay, which has become an iconic element of Tim Henson’s aesthetic. The Side Sound Port, positioned on the side of the body, also allows the player to hear the instrument’s sound more directly while playing. It is a design that is both visually striking and highly functional, further reinforcing the contemporary character of this Ibanez.And of course, the TOD10N is about much more than its acoustic performance. Its Fishman S-Core pickup combined with the Ibanez AEQ210TF preamp allows it to be connected directly to an acoustic amplifier, PA system, audio interface or recording setup. Once amplified, it retains excellent definition and becomes particularly appealing to guitarists looking to explore the processing and effects possibilities offered by modern setups.This is therefore much more than a standard signature nylon-string guitar: it is a genuine creative instrument, designed to bridge the gap between the world of classical guitar and that of the modern electric guitar.
