These straight parallel grain lines ensure the wood is less sceptical to disfiguration such as warping, shrinking, twisting and swelling that can occur in plain sawn necks. It takes a lot of skill and time to cut the Maple in such a way that the grain runs perpendicular to the face of the board and only small quantities of blanks can be cut from each log.
