The design of the Fender Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass is clearly based on the 1962 original of the legendary bassist. For example, the body is made of alder in the typical offset design without the usual pickguard. The slim maple neck is classically attached with four screws and, with its slim "C" profile, lies comfortably in the hand. Furthermore the fretless fretboard is made of Pau Ferro, in which thin fret lines help to hit every note accurately.

The Fender Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass 3-Color Sunburst features two Fender American Vintage single-coil pickups, which transport the velvety attack and singing sustain of the fretless bass to the amp with harmonic naturalness.
