Great sound for bass, guitar, Fender Rhodes etc., and particularly well-suited to acoustic instruments with piezo pickups. I’ve also used it specifically with great success for an oud.

The adjustable impedance acts like a subtle tone control and is sometimes the icing on the cake

“I was impressed by the TD100. It really is a rock-solid and robust piece of kit that inspires confidence. The provision of direct outputs at line and microphone levels is brilliant and makes the TD100 extremely flexible, as does the headphone output. The hybrid circuitry combines a welcome tube warmth with the reliability of solid-state components, and any musician who works with large PA systems on stage one day and in the studio the next will find the TD100 a very useful tool. There are cheaper DIs in the UK, but none that sound as good as this one or offer such flexibility.

Internally, the build quality is excellent and the steel casing is extremely robust – this is not a product that breaks easily! The TD100’s circuitry uses conventional components throughout, mounted on a high-quality circuit board. A very high-quality Burr Brown operational amplifier is tucked away near the input circuit, alongside a Groove Tubes ECC83. The latter is mounted horizontally on a daughter board, with a ‘spider socket’, to prevent heat damage to the circuit board’s traces.

The circuit board directly beneath the valve has also been drilled to allow for convection cooling. Summit Audio claims a service life of around 10,000 hours for the valve, and to access and replace it, one simply needs to remove the thick steel cover, which is secured with seven screws. The output circuit appears to consist of a series of discrete transistors and a further operational amplifier using an LM339 to drive the headphone output. A massive transformer features a 6 V heating winding, which is tapped at ±24 V for the semiconductor circuit, and an 185 V anode high-voltage supply winding."
