Manufactured by Nippon Gakki in Japan during the late 1960s/early 1970s, these guitars have earned a legendary reputation for their incredible build quality, aging wood, and tone that rivals acoustic guitars triple their price. ​The FG-230 is famous for having that specific "Red Label" sound—crystalline, chimey highs paired with a warm, resonant, and woody low end that only decades of aging can produce. ​Key Features ​Era: Vintage Nippon Gakki (Japan). ​Top: Solid Ezo Spruce (known for tight grain and projection). ​Back/Sides: Mahogany. ​Fretboard: Rosewood. ​Sound: Massive, rich, and articulate—the quintessential vintage 12-string jangle. ​Build: Renowned "tank-like" Japanese craftsmanship from the golden era of Yamaha acoustic production. ​Condition Report ​Cosmetic: Overall in great vintage condition with typical character marks, light scratches, and minimal lacquer checking consistent with a 50+ year old instrument. ​Neck/Action: The neck is straight, and the guitar currently has super heavy 14-59 custom strings.
