About this listing
Here’s a very cool and very vibey Sennheiser MD408 from the 1960’s. This MD408 has a slightly smaller, but very similar capsule to the famous MD409. You can get a really similar microphone at a much lower price point with this great MD408. These are real "sleepers" of microphones, as some vintage Sennheisers tend to be, compared to their ultra famous and expensive counterparts. The MD408 was meant for podium use, and of course is quite good for that. It’s also quite good for “snaking” into small spaces, IE under a snare drum. Of course the MD409 is one of the most famous guitar cab mics of all time, and you’ll find the MD408 excels on that as well. The slightly earlier capsules that you find in these (or an MD405 or MD406) have a pretty steep low end roll off that helps tame loud high SPL sounds. The 409 was famously used by Pink Floyd too, and this would also make a wonderful vocal mic that does a good job of limiting proximity bass overload. This one has been cleaned internally. The switch contacts have also been cleaned. Includes a new tuchel tail as well. S/N: 09314The gooseneck is very cool and can be very useful in placement at times. The mic has a typical euro thread, but you can also put it on a more modern clip (or a spring clip) to position the capsule right on an amp cab for instance. See pictures for cosmetic condition as well. It's not perfect, but has honest wear for a ~60 year old microphone. As always, more info and best price on our website.
