This guitar was upgraded with the intention to make it the best sounding P90 50's style Les Paul possible. Just about every component has been upgraded: P90s, 3-way switchcraft switch, wiring loom, pots, capacitors, 3-ply pick guard, Tusk nut and Bonamassa-style Gibson knobs. The frets have been shined and slightly rolled on the edges. The guitar plays and feels like a "new" vintage LP from the 50s. It sounds amazing and has real mojo, this is not your standard LP studio tribute!

60's style neck and Kluson tuners.

The condition is great, I can't find any scratches or dings on it.

Comes with original Gibson gig bag.

Boutique '54 P90 Pickups

Every once in a while, we’re lucky enough to repair a vintage pickup that absolutely blows us away. Monty’s '54 P90s are a recreation of a set of vintage P90s, modelled on the two best examples we have ever seen here at Monty’s, one from a 1954 Gibson Les Paul and the other from a mid-60s Epiphone Century.

The thing that really struck us about these vintage Gibson P90s (and for anyone wondering, 60s Epiphones absolutely did have real Gibson P90s) is how much clarity they had; they have all the thick tones that you might expect, but with less mid-range and a lower output than many modern P90s. We’ve emulated all of this in the '54, creating an incredibly versatile P90 with a little less honk than many people associate with this kind of a pickup. It is impressively touch responsive, with full, airy mids and plenty of bite.

Just like the pickups on which it's modelled, this pickup has no wax-potting, ensuring maximum clarity and responsiveness.

Monty’s 50s wiring loom upgrade the wiring using premium components and a traditional layout. One of the best upgrades you can make to a Les Paul style guitar is to fit one of Monty’s 50s wiring looms. The key difference between a modern wiring loom and a 50s wiring loom lies in the relationship between the volume and tone pots. In simple terms, whereas a modern wiring loom connects the tone pots to the input of the volume pot, a 50s wiring loom connects them to the output of the volume pot.

50s wiring allows you to retain clarity as you roll down the volume pot, much like a treble bleed circuit (but without its inherent disadvantages). It also changes the response of the tone knobs, creating a slight interaction with the volume pot as you turn the tone pot down. The net effect is transformative; whereas modern wiring can make P90s sound muddy as soon as you start to turn anything down, a 50s loom allows the sound to beautifully clean up in response to the volume and tone knobs.

Looms are made with only the best components: 500k CTS audio taper pots, vintage-correct wire and two of our  own super high-quality oil capacitors; with 0.022uf cap in for the neck position.
