This Les Paul Pro Deluxe has a 1975 serial number while the original pots are from early 1976, so it’s likely a pre-production item as the Pro model was said to be produced 1976-82 and only present in catalogues from 1978. The Pro share many design elements with the classic 1955-57 P90 pickup equipped Les Paul standards. It differs obviously in the choice of finishes and also by using a maple neck and a deep black ebony fretboard, a feature we are quite partial to on the 70s SGs and Les Pauls. The truss rod cover engraving simply has the word Pro in script. In some Gibson literature of the time, the 'Deluxe' is dropped, and this model is referred to as the Les Paul Pro.
This one is in really good condition, just a few scratches that are only visible depending how the light hits it. It has new knobs and a missing poker chip. The neck profile doesn’t feel like your typical super thin 70’s Gibson neck profile but has a more traditional profile. By the look of the solderings, this one has probably had the bridge pickup swapped out for a mini humbucker at one point and then had the P-90 put back.
The guitar is shipped with the original Gibson Protector “Chainsaw” case, generation 1 with 2 plastic latches and red plush interior. The padding on the handle is starting to show its age but the case is structurally sound.
