About this listing
DescriptionThis is a 1967 Gibson ES-125TDC thinline hollowbody in Sunburst. I’m not playing enough to keep it.ConditionOriginal nitro finish, not refinishedI believe these are the original frets; light wear and neck shows very little wear for its age - I suspect it’s been a case queen for most of its lifeNo cracks, breaks, or structural repairsBack is notably clean with no buckle rashCosmetically, the guitar is very clean overall. The only notable blemish is a single small finish chip (not into the wood) on the top above the pickups (approximately 0.75 cm square), which has been professionally sealed by a luthier. Otherwise, wear is consistent with careful ownership rather than heavy use.ElectronicsOriginal Gibson P-90 dogear pickupsNeck pickup measures just over 8.0 kΩBridge pickup measures just over 8.0 kΩModificationsBridge historyAt some point prior to my ownership, the guitar was fitted with a nickel ABR-style bridge that was pinned into the top rather than floating. I cannot verify whether this was factory-original or a later modification, so I’m disclosing it as unknown origin.I’ve found some references online to other people having ABR bridges from factory but nobody that has authoritatively had Gibson confirm one way or another. It’s one of those outstanding mysteries. The guitar is currently fitted with a carved rosewood bridge made by a local luthier (Misha Udovenko ) from reclaimed 100-year-old rosewood originally sourced from a Steinway piano by Misha. This was done as a removable, non-invasive option.Because I like a mellower jazz tone, I have flatwounds on it right now. But if you want a bitey blues-rock tone, stick the rounds on it, or even swap back the ABR bridgeThe original nickel ABR bridge is included in the case.Strap buttonThe upper strap button was moved by Misha to the heel because the original point from factory is way too weak and risky. No other modifications are known or present.CaseThe guitar comes with a high-quality aftermarket hard case with plush interior and tolex exterior, custom made by a Canadian case maker like many of the original Gibson cases. While not the original (flimsy pressboard) Gibson case, it provides better protection for a vintage guitar.SpecificationsModel: Gibson ES-125TDCYear: 1967Body: Laminated maple, thinline hollowbodyNeck: MahoganyFingerboard: RosewoodScale length: 24.75 inchesNut width: 1 9/16 inchesFrets: OriginalPickups: Original Gibson P-90 dogears × 2Pickup readings: just over 8.0 kΩ eachBridge: Carved rosewood (nickel ABR included in case)Tailpiece: TrapezeWeight: approximately 6 lb 6 ozCase: Aftermarket hard shellAccording to Reverb’s price history, clean ES-125TDC prices have grown about 3.5%-4% annually after adjusting for inflation, which is one reason I haven’t been in a rush to sell this one.Happy to answer questions or provide additional photos.
