1966 Fender Mustang – Red
We present an all original 1966 Fender Mustang in its original Red finish. Made in Fullerton, California.
History
The Fender Mustang was introduced in 1964 as part of Fender’s student model range, designed as an affordable, easy-to-play electric guitar for beginners and younger players. It was Fender’s last of the “student” offset models, following the Duo-Sonic and Musicmaster, and featured a shorter 24” scale length, lightweight body, and a simple but highly functional tremolo system.
Originally intended for the student and entry-level market, the Mustang quickly gained popularity beyond its original purpose. Its comfortable feel, distinctive offset design, and unique switching system made it attractive to professional musicians, and over time it became widely used in alternative rock, indie, and punk scenes. Today, the Mustang is regarded as a classic Fender model and remains a highly popular guitar among players across all genres.
Condition
Overall, this ’66 Mustang is in excellent condition, showing only minor nicks, dings, small finish flaking on the sides and cosmetic wear. The original red finish remains vibrant and well preserved. The white pearl pickguard is fully intact with no cracks or warping. Frets and nut show minimal wear and still have plenty of life left. Very clean maple neck with a beautiful rosewood fingerboard pearl dots.
Originality
This early ’66 Mustang is 100% original throughout, just as it left the Fullerton factory in 1966. Both original pickups are intact and deliver a clear, well-balanced and dynamic tone. The original set of F-tuners operate smoothly and retain their original buttons. The guitar includes its original tremolo arm, bridge cover, and strap.
All electronics and wiring remain untouched and fully original, with no modifications, no replaced components, and no re-wound pickups. Everything is correct and factory-original.
Comes with its original hardshell case. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
