These 2007 Murphy Aged Les Pauls from the Murphy/Wilson era are now among the most sought-after collector’s items. The rosewood fingerboard is so dark that it almost looks like ebony. Very authentic aging with numerous hairline cracks as well as dings and dents placed in exactly the right spots. The aging by grandmaster Tom Murphy is simply beyond reproach: extremely authentic and never overdone! Weighing in at 4,000 grams, this gem has exactly the right weight to optimize the balance between mass and playability. The ’59 Medium neck profile also fits perfectly in the hand and is extremely comfortable to play. Sonically, this is an absolute tone monster with a character all its own and superb responsiveness. The Burstbuckers deliver a wonderfully fat sound through the amp — one that has a nice crunch, never sounds muddy and offers endless sustain. It really rocks out at the bridge while always staying nice and open. At the neck, it’s pure Blues! Powerful, great attack, fantastic tone and it sings all the way up to the highest registers. The fact that the guitar also comes from the “Gibson Custom, Art and Historic Division” and was therefore built to historically accurate specifications only makes the overall package even more interesting. The original pickups were replaced briefly but have since been reinstalled. In addition, the guitar has a small crack in the finish on the back, but this is purely cosmetic.
