John Enwistle (The Who), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Adam Clayton (U2), T.M. Stevens, …—founded in 1982, this German premium bass manufacturer from the Vogtland region has established itself over the past four decades as the go-to choice for numerous world-class bassists. Why? Because every Warwick bass meets only the highest standards: select tonewoods, proprietary hardware, sophisticated electronics, and precision “Made in Germany” craftsmanship make Warwick instruments among the most sought-after on the market.
Since its introduction in the 1990s, the Warwick Corvette has been one of Warwick’s absolute classics. This 5-string Bubinga model from 2017, presented here as a team-built instrument manufactured in Markneukirchen, is a prime example of simple yet high-quality material selection and uncompromising German craftsmanship, offering professional everyday usability and the distinctive Warwick sound aesthetic.
The solidbody bubinga body, with its generous contours, delivers outstanding resonance that is already audible acoustically, as well as an exceptionally powerful low end, pronounced mids, and long sustain. The screw-in ovangkol neck and wenge fingerboard provide additional definition and transparency, resulting in an extremely assertive tone that performs excellently both in the studio and on stage.
When amplified, the two MEC J/J singlecoil pickups reproduce the acoustic sound with a tight bass foundation, crisp attack, and lively, dynamic detail resolution. The active MEC 2-way electronics allow for flexible tone shaping, while the integrated active/passive switch offers additional versatility. From classic J-Bass-style sounds to modern fusion tones and powerful rock and metal sounds, this Corvette 5A covers an impressively wide spectrum.
A sound sample of the model can be found above at the end of the photo gallery (starting at 6:35 min).
The Warwick 2-Piece 3D bridge allows for extensive adjustment options for optimal playability, while the 45mm-wide Just-A-Nut III Tedur ensures optimal intonation. Together with the precise Warwick Germany die-cast tuners, this creates an instrument that is extremely stable in tuning and road-ready.
Visually, the bass features a classically elegant Natural Transparent Satin finish that perfectly showcases the impressive grain of the bubinga body. The chocolate-brown ovangkol neck blends in beautifully and, together with the gleaming chrome hardware, underscores the instrument’s refined boutique character.
