The sound behind the records:
The core factory sound palette across the D-50, JD-800, and the entire JV/XP series — including these very SR-JV80 expansion boards — was shaped by Eric Persing, Roland's Chief Sound Designer from 1984 to 2004. Persing (who went on to found Spectrasonics and create Omnisphere) personally programmed a large share of the patches that defined Roland's sound through the 90s and 2000s, and worked directly with Hans Zimmer on custom sample content during that period.

The JV series never got the reverence of the Jupiter or the Juno, but it quietly ended up on more records and film scores than most people realize — from Zimmer's soundtrack work to Kevin Parker/Tame Impala, Bruno Mars, Depeche Mode, Todd Terry, Richard Barbieri, Mike Oldfield, LTJ Bukem, ATB, and Hardfloor. This is the sound engine behind a genuinely wide swath of film, TV, and chart music from the last three decades — not just a nostalgia piece.

What's included:

• 3× Roland JV-2080, 64-voice sound modules — tested, powered on, and fully functional
• All 19 original SR-JV80 expansion boards, including the ultra-rare SR-JV80-06 "Dance" board, pulled from the market decades ago over a copyright dispute and rarely found complete and working since
• Combined capacity of 24 expansion slots across the three units, and up to 512 voices / 48-part multitimbral performance when chained together

Condition:
All three units power on and function correctly, with normal cosmetic wear consistent with age — no known faults. The backup batteries in all three units have been freshly replaced, and each unit has been reset to factory default settings, so buyers are starting from a clean, reliable baseline rather than inheriting old patch edits or a dying battery. No original boxes, manuals, or RAM card included — just the modules and the complete expansion library, ready to play.
