The Martin Committee III Alto Saxophone – S/N 156xxx – Fully Restored – Bare Brass

For sale is a beautiful vintage The Martin Committee III alto saxophone, serial number 156xxx, made in Elkhart, Indiana, USA.

This saxophone has undergone an extensive mechanical restoration and is ready to play. The original lacquer has been completely removed, leaving the instrument with an attractive natural bare-brass finish that will gradually develop its own patina over time.

Restoration work includes:

  • All new pads
  • All round needle springs replaced with new ones
  • Complete disassembly of the keywork
  • All keywork and mechanical parts thoroughly cleaned
  • Keys and mechanisms checked and straightened where necessary
  • Keywork carefully fitted and adjusted
  • Complete regulation of the mechanism
  • New cork and felt
  • Final setup and adjustment for proper sealing and playing condition

The saxophone has been completely gone through mechanically, with considerable attention given to restoring the action and making the instrument function as it should.

The Martin Committee III – usually simply called “The Martin” – is one of the classic American professional saxophones of the post-war era. These instruments are particularly appreciated for their rich, powerful and characteristic vintage Martin sound.

The engraving remains clearly visible after removal of the lacquer, and the bare brass gives the instrument a very attractive vintage appearance.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the actual saxophone being offered.

This is a vintage instrument and therefore naturally shows signs consistent with its age and history. It is not being represented as a cosmetically excellent instrument. The emphasis of the restoration has been on mechanical condition, reliability and playability, while retaining the character of this vintage American saxophone.
