For Sale – 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard Tobacco Burst (Serial No. 72198570)
Selling due to personal reasons (a work injury currently preventing me from playing guitar).
This is an original 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Tobacco Burst finish, with the word "Tobacco" clearly marked inside the neck pickup cavity. The guitar is in very good cosmetic condition and comes with its original Protector “Chainsaw” case including its vintage tags.
Specifications:
- Top: 3-piece Maple
- Back and Sides: Mahogany
- Neck: 3-piece Maple, bound
- Neck Finish: Nitrocellulose
- Neck Shape: Slim (21.2 mm at 1st fret, 24.3 mm at 12th fret)
- Scale Length: 627 mm
- Fingerboard: Rosewood – stunning grain!
- Fingerboard Radius: 12"
- Frets: 22 original medium frets
- Nut: Acrylic, width 42.66 mm
Electronics:
- Bridge Pickup: PAT No. 2737842 – 7.20 kΩ, original rings
- Neck Pickup: PAT No. 2737842 – 1.33 kΩ, original rings
- Controls: V, T, V, T – soldering has been redone; a ground wire has been added and connected to the stopbar stud
- Bridge: Nashville-style, chrome, made in Germany
- Tuners: Original tulip-style
- Pickguard: Original 1-ply
- Knobs: Original reflector knobs
- Jack Plate: Original metal
Please note:
I have already contacted luthier Romano Burini (of Francesco Balossino's Tone Team) for potential restoration of an original-style bridge (to replace the current German Nashville) and a check of the electronics (to remove the extra ground wire and clean up the soldering, which is currently functional but not visually tidy).
