For sale is my 2014 Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Les Paul Reissue, Klangfarbe Special Edition, in Heavy Aged Ebony.

This is not a standard R8 with a black finish. It is part of an exclusive run of just 10 guitars commissioned by Klangfarbe, Vienna, and built to the dealer’s specifications by Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville.

The combination of a 1958 Reissue platform, a more comfortable ’59 neck profile, specially selected lightweight mahogany, Custombucker pickups and a factory Heavy Aged Ebony finish makes this a particularly unusual Historic Les Paul.

According to Klangfarbe’s original promotional material, the dealer commissioned only 10 guitars in this special run.

Being the original owner, I know that ONLY 4 of them were made in Aged Ebony. So this is extremely rare. Friends who know a thing or two about Paulas and played it at my studio totally flipped over the quality and tone of this guitar! But I just can’t keep everything, I habe a Custom R7 that I just play more often and it’s time to let it go to good hands.
No wonder, as the guitar was selected from all 10 of them, they were all great but 2 of them stood out from the beginning, and this is one of them.

The original retail price in 2014 was €5,550.

Condition and originality

The guitar is in excellent overall condition, taking into account its factory Heavy Aged finish.

It has been used for only two live performances and otherwise played exclusively in my home rehearsal room.

It is completely original and unmodified, with its original pickups, electronics and hardware. No parts have been replaced or upgraded. The only small change is a lower pickup frame at the bridge, a genuine Gibson part. The original one is included. But you don’t get a decent string action with that one…

Sound and feel

The ’59 neck profile is slightly slimmer than the typically substantial R8 neck, while retaining the feel of a Historic Les Paul.

At just 3.92 kg (8.64 lbs), this is also a relatively lightweight example of a traditionally constructed Les Paul.

The Custombuckers deliver the open, dynamic, PAF-inspired character associated with Gibson’s Historic Reissues. Together with the distinctive factory Heavy Aged Ebony finish, the specifications make this guitar stand apart from a conventional R8.

The guitar is located in Germany. Local collection and an in-person inspection or playing test are welcome.

Insured shipping can be discussed with serious buyers. Shipping costs and arrangements will depend on the destination. The guitar will be carefully packed in its original Gibson Custom Shop case with appropriate outer packaging.
