Custom OLED Display Upgrade for Akai VX90 / S700 (Plug & Play)

If you own the legendary Akai VX90 analog synthesizer or S700 sampler and are struggling with a faded, dead, or unreadable screen, this is the ultimate solution.

Why a standard OLED won't work:
Swapping the display on these specific Akai models is notoriously tricky. You can't just drop in a standard off-the-shelf OLED (like the 1601 type). Due to the character addressing of the old controllers, standard screens will wrap the text in the middle of the line—resulting in a jumbled, unreadable mess.

My Custom Solution:
I designed a dedicated hardware hack/custom PCB that elegantly and permanently solves this character addressing issue.

Why choose this module over others?

• No Stretched Font: Unlike other options (honestly, the only other solution currently on the market), the font on this display is not artificially stretched vertically. The characters have their natural proportions, making the screen look incredibly clean, "cozy," and true to the instrument's vintage aesthetic. Check out the photos!
• The Original Contrast Knob Works!
  Unlike most OLED mods where the contrast potentiometer becomes completely useless, this module keeps it functional. Please note that due to the technological differences between modern OLEDs and vintage LCDs, the brightness changes only within a limited section of the knob's rotation, while the rest of the path remains inactive. However, this active range is perfectly sufficient to let you dial in the ideal glow!
• Beautiful Amber Yellow: The module comes in a stunning Yellow (Amber) color. Classic green 1601 OLEDs are extremely hard to source nowadays, but this yellow gives the unit a fantastic, warm, and premium retro vibe that fits perfectly with the Akai design.

Plug & Play Installation:
No destructive mods, no soldering inside the instrument! The display comes ready to install right out of the box:

• For Akai VX90: The custom PCB comes with a new 40cm ribbon cable for direct connection. It includes 2x spacers (standoffs). Mounting to the VX90 chassis is straightforward: it is fastened using 2 original screws on the right side. The screw holes on the left side will remain unused (don't worry, the module holds perfectly secure this way).
• For Akai S700: The display comes with a pre-wired cable that simply plugs into the original connector on the motherboard. It includes 4x spacers (standoffs) and is fastened securely using all 4 original screws.

What's included in the box:
