Focusrite Green 4 Dual Compressor / Limiter
A vintage, high-precision 2-channel rack compressor/limiter built on Class-A VCA technology. Featuring soft/hard knee switching, adaptive auto-release, adjustable side-chain filters, look-ahead peak control, and transparent compression with character. Engineered and made in the UK. The unit is in very good working and aesthetic condition having af course the usual traces of use. It comes with original user manual and power cord.
Key Features & Technical Highlights
- Dual Analog Compressor & Limiter
Designed with separate compressor and limiter sections—each boasting its own threshold control—driven by the same Class-A VCA circuit. This gives you fine-tuned dynamic control form factor. - Soft-Knee & Hard-Knee Modes
Choose between gentle, musical compression or more assertive, defined control, depending on your mix needs. - Side-Chain Filters for Precision Control
Variable high-pass (15 Hz–10 kHz) and low-pass (65 Hz–25 kHz) filters reside in the side-chain path, allowing you to prevent bass or sibilant frequencies from overtriggering the compressor—great for de-essing or tightening complex mixes—without affecting the audio signal. - Auto-Release & Look-Ahead Functionality
The auto-release adapts release time based on input dynamics—louder signals release slower, ensuring natural response. The analog Look-Ahead feature enables the limiter to anticipate peaks, delivering ultra-fast peak control. (Note: enabling Look-Ahead slightly reduces audio bandwidth and it can causes some artifacts) - Comprehensive Controls & Visual Feedback
Includes classic compressor controls: Threshold, Ratio (up to 10:1), Attack, Release, and Make-Up Gain, plus limiter threshold and release. A 10-segment LED gain-reduction meter provides clear visual reference, and toggle switches with integrated LEDs ensure you always know your routing state. Stereo linking is available for seamless stereo or subgroup control. - Transparent Yet Musical Sound
Praised for its transparent soft-knee compression, the unit can deliver anything from subtle leveling to creative pumping effects. Particularly effective on vocals—smoothing dynamics without losing natural movement.
- Engineered in the UK during the 1990s, this rackmount workhorse combines durable construction with pro-grade design and sonic clarity.
- Positioned as a “budget alternative” in the Green series, it offers authentic Focusrite circuit design and sound—not a compromise in quality, but excellent value for both vintage collectors and modern studios
Please have in mind that it is an EU 230V compliant device. If you intend to use it in a 110/120V network you’ll need a step-up transformer. The device has been checked and will be checked before shipping, however as with any vintage equipment it is sold as-is – no returns. Another important reminder: Any extra charges for import duties or other charges are solely the responsibility of the buyer, the price listed is purely the selling price.
Thanks for checking!
