About this listing
I have for sale a Shure Unisphere 1 565 cardioid dynamic microphone. This particular mic is from the 60s or early 70s, which you can tell by its 4 pin Amphenol socket. This is the same model of microphone used extensively at Woodstock and was the choice stage mic of Freddy Mercury. The mic sounds the same as its pair (I have two for sale, seperate listings), it sounds great. I have replaced the foam windshield inside with modern replacement foam for an SM58, and I have used them as speech microphones. I have over 100 microphones and am slimming down my collection a little. The amphenol sockets really are far superior to the more commonly used XLR, providing a much stronger coupling between the mic and cable. I suppose it is the relative slowness of threading the plug on, and perhaps the cost of the plug that means the XLR became more popular. The mic is supplied with a black 5m steel reinforced cable with the Amphenol connector and a neutrik XLR on the other end. This cable is brutally strong and would be just the thing for fancy stage antics (swinging the mic above your head, launching it in to the crowd to fish an audience member on stage... it really is that strong). The 4 pin socket allows for the mic to be wired for low or high impedance, it is currently wired for low, which is suitable for modern mixing desks and the like, but rewiring for high would be best if you wanted to plug it in to a guitar amp, or run it through pedals, or perhaps you have a vintage tape deck hanging around!Any questions free free and you are welcome to come and see the mic in Cardiff. I am willing to post internationally, please contact me for a quote.
