Gretsch Electromatic 5120 Hollow Body 1995 MIJ Terada Japan Orange

I’m offering an early Gretsch Electromatic 5120 hollow body made in Japan in 1995 at the legendary Terada factory.

This is one of the very first modern-era Electromatic models produced before Gretsch moved much of the Electromatic production to Korea and later China. It is a completely different instrument compared to the later budget-oriented 5120 models commonly found on the market.

The guitar features original USA PAT Filter’Tron pickups, a fully hollow maple body, licensed Bigsby vibrato and classic Gretsch aesthetics with a beautiful orange finish and naturally aged hardware patina.

The sound is exactly what you expect from a proper old Japanese Gretsch:
open, dynamic, woody and extremely resonant, with that unmistakable airy Filter’Tron character.

Compared to later Korean or Chinese Electromatics, this guitar feels noticeably more alive acoustically and significantly more refined in both response and build quality. The Terada-made Gretsch instruments from the 90s are in a completely different league in terms of craftsmanship, neck feel and overall resonance. This one genuinely feels much closer to professional Gretsch Japan models than to later mass-produced Electromatics.

Condition:
The guitar remains in very good vintage condition with normal signs of use and natural aging visible across the hardware and finish. Frets are in good condition.

This is not a typical modern Electromatic. It is an early Japanese revival-era Gretsch with real character, excellent craftsmanship and a sound that immediately explains why Terada-built Gretsch guitars became so respected among players and collectors.
