The Rocky 7A model Japan, pictured, dates back to the golden age of Japanese exports (MIJ — Made In Japan), which spanned the 1960s and 1970s. ✔️

Historical Context:

1960s: During this period, Japanese manufacturers such as Pearl and Hoshino (later Tama) began mass-producing drumsticks and accessories for the Western market under a variety of different brands (Stencil brands). Rocky was one such brand, providing affordable, high-quality instruments. ✔️

Material: At the time, Japanese factories made extensive use of local white oak (Shira Kashi Oak). This wood is much denser and heavier than American hickory, making vintage drumsticks of that period very durable and resonant. ✔️

Design: The distinctive green or gold lettering and the use of natural varnishes are typical of Japanese products of the 1970s. ✔️

Current Status:

The Rocky brand in its original form no longer exists, making these drumsticks a rare vintage item. They are of interest not only as working jazz instruments, but also as collectibles for fans of the "Japanese invasion" era in the music industry. ✔️
