About this listing
A superb example here – a left-handed 2015 Taylor 614ce Grand Auditorium, complete with the Expression System 2 electronics, original hard shell case and all paperwork. This model comes from the first wave of Andy Powers’ redesign of the 600 Series, a move that really elevated these guitars into something quite special. The 614ce pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid big leaf maple back and sides, finished in a beautifully understated blonde/maple aesthetic. The torrefied (Taylor call it “roasted”) spruce top gives the guitar a more played-in, mature response straight out of the case, while the maple body keeps everything focused and articulate. The Grand Auditorium body shape makes this an incredibly versatile instrument. It sits comfortably between dreadnought power and smaller body intimacy, making it equally suited to fingerstyle, strumming and more dynamic playing styles. The maple neck, paired with a West African ebony fingerboard and Taylor’s standard 25.5” scale length, offers a smooth, fast feel with excellent note definition right across the board.Bracing is Taylor’s Performance Bracing, introduced with the Andy Powers redesign, which helps to bring out more warmth and responsiveness from what has traditionally been a brighter tonewood combination. The result is a much more balanced and expressive instrument than earlier maple-bodied Taylors.Plugged in, the Expression System 2 delivers a very natural and dynamic amplified tone, thanks to its behind-the-saddle pickup design. It captures the guitar’s acoustic character accurately, with plenty of clarity and headroom for live or studio use.Tonally, this is where the 2015 redesign really shines. You still get the clarity and definition maple is known for, but now with added warmth, depth and a more open low end. The trebles are clear and sweet without being brittle, the midrange is present and musical, and the bass response is controlled yet full. It responds beautifully to a light touch but has plenty in reserve when you dig in, making it a very expressive and rewarding guitar to play.Condition-wise, this one has seen very little use. It’s in excellent overall condition with only the faintest signs of handling. The neck is straight, the frets are in superb shape, and the setup is light and easy, making it a joy to play.A fantastic left-handed example of a redesigned classic – beautifully built, responsive, and a real step forward for the 600 Series.
