About this listing
With the new Gibson 1957 SJ-200 VSB, the traditional American manufacturer is expanding its Custom Shop Historic collection with the largest flat-top western guitar in the company's history, which is modeled on the original from the 1950s in a detailed design. Famous for its loud and deep sound, the guitar is still used today by numerous artists worldwide for powerful strumming and in the singer-songwriter field. Thanks to a thermal treatment of the wood, the guitar sounds as authentic as an instrument that has been played for years and takes the player back to the good old days. A custom-fit case and a Gibson accessory kit are included in the scope of deliveryA Sitka spruce top provides clear and powerful midsSitka spruce wood is one of the most popular materials in guitar making due to its fine structure and extraordinarily clear sound development and produces very set and clear midrange frequencies that are able to express every single note in a very differentiated and clean way. A thermal treatment of the wood gives the SJ200 a very fast response, which is further enhanced by scalloped X-bracing and a wafer-thin nitro lacquer finish. Easily recognizable by the slightly flamed and even, tight grain, the North American spruce wood also makes a very good visual impression and, with its light appearance, matches the other woods used perfectly. The large pickguard with floral ornaments and the bridge in an elaborate moustache shape with integrated Inlays form a further highlight of the flat-top classic and give the top an elegant and timeless look that makes the instrument so incredibly popular.Back and sides made from the finest curly mapleDue to the huge super-jumbo construction, the guitar produces very powerful bass frequencies that color the entire tone warmly and richly, making the instrument perfect for vocal accompaniment and strumming. The strikingly grained maple wood of the body infuses the entire sound with a gentle note that enriches the clear mid-range frequencies in a very subtle way and rounds them off in terms of balance. Strong flames shimmer brighter or darker depending on the angle of view, forming the even bars in the grain that give this stunning wood its name and give the instrument a unique appearance. Cream-coloured bindings form a gentle transition between the light woods of the entire body and separate the individual components from each other with faint lines, thus emphasizing the exciting and even structure of the grain. The open back of the guitar is separated by a fine backstripe that emphasizes the symmetry of the two back sections and runs straight through to the headstock.A round maple neck for maximum playing comfortDespite a long scale length of 647.7 mm, the guitar is very easy and accommodating to play in all 20 frets. The reason for this is a two-piece maple neck with a round profile, which enables a comfortable grip even in the higher frets and allows the player to elicit a clean tone from the instrument with little effort. The fine rosewood fingerboard is adorned with mother-of-pearl inlays, whose unusual crown design emphasizes the value of the material and proves that the manufacturer's craftsmanship is renowned worldwide for good reason. The large headstock features the company logo and a fine inlay which, in combination with the bell-shaped truss rod cover, form a colorful contrast to the black background. Typical of the old Super Jumbo models, the guitar is equipped with tuning-stable Gotoh keystone tuners that fully embody the spirit of the 1950s.The Gibson 1957 SJ-200 VSB at a glance:Acoustic acoustic guitarCustom storeSolid super jumbo constructionSitka spruce topFlamed maple body647.7 mm scale lengthTwo-piece maple neckRosewood fingerboard with MOP Crown inlays20 fretsTortoise pickguard with floral ornamentsMoustache bridge made of rosewood with inlaysGolden Gotoh keystone tunersIncludes case and accessory kit
