While the early models used rosewood, in 1947, the wood used for the sides and back changed to maple. The SJ-200 has been used by everyone from matinee cowboys to folk troubadours, country crooners to rock royalty, and vintage SJ-200 models are in high demand among collectors.
Now, Epiphone, in collaboration with Gibson Custom, is proud to introduce the 1957 SJ-200 Reissue, an Inspired by Gibson Custom recreation of the majestic 1957 Super Jumbo model, making it more accessible for today’s guitarists to enjoy. The Epiphone 1957 SJ-200 Reissue is packed with vintage-inspired details and features all solid wood construction, including a thermally aged solid Sitka spruce top that is reinforced with scalloped X-bracing, solid figured maple back and sides, multi-ply top and back binding, a two-piece flame maple neck with a walnut stringer, comfortable C profile, and a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with mother-of-pearl graduated Crown inlays and 20 standard frets. The neck is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The SJ-200 style pickguard has vintage-style graphics, and the rosewood SJ-200 open two-bar Moustache™ bridge has mother-of-pearl inlays. The nut, compensated saddle, and bridge pins are all made of bone. The bound, Gibson-style “open book”
