1964 Fender Stratocaster – Original Pre-CBS Body & Neck – Brazilian Rosewood / Clay Dots
(possible trades)
This is a rare opportunity to acquire an original 1964 Fender Stratocaster body and neck, dating from the highly sought-after pre-CBS period at a fraction of the current market value of a completely original example.”
This is a particularly attractive proposition for a collector, player or serious vintage guitar enthusiast who wants to own a genuine piece of Fender history without the considerably higher investment normally required for a complete, untouched and fully original 1964.
The set combines an original 1964 Fender alder body, originally finished in the highly desirable Fiesta Red, with an original 1964 Fender neck featuring Brazilian Rosewood and clay dots.
BODY
The body is an original 1964 Fender Stratocaster body, originally finished in Fiesta Red.
The body has subsequently been refinished, but important evidence of the original factory finish remains visible in the neck pocket and inside the rear tremolo spring cavity. These areas retain traces of the original Fiesta Red finish and provide useful confirmation of the body's original color.
One particularly important feature is that the original body contours remain intact. There is no evidence of aggressive sanding or contour loss, and the characteristic Fender Stratocaster shaping of the body has been preserved.
A light and tasteful relic treatment has been applied to selected areas of the refinished surface, giving the body a naturally aged appearance without altering its fundamental geometry.
The body retains the unmistakable character of an authentic mid-'60s Fender piece: the aged alder, original construction and decades-old wood give it a depth and resonance that are simply difficult to reproduce with newly manufactured instruments.
NECK
The neck is an original 1964 Fender Stratocaster neck, featuring the highly desirable Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and original-style clay dot inlays, characteristic of this period.
The Brazilian Rosewood is particularly attractive, with the density, grain and natural aging that collectors look for in genuine pre-CBS Fender necks.
The neck has no breaks, cracks or structural repairs.
A light clear overspray is present on the back of the neck. The original Fender headstock decal is no longer present. The headstock currently carries a very high-quality reproduction Fender logo, made to be extremely close in appearance to the original decal.
This is explicitly disclosed for the sake of complete transparency.
The neck has been professionally refretted. The current frets are in excellent condition and retain substantial playing life, making this a neck suitable not only for collection but also for serious playing use.
SIX DECADES OF NATURAL AGING
There is something fundamentally different about an authentic vintage Fender component that has spent approximately six decades aging naturally.
The alder body and Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard have undergone decades of natural drying, stabilization and material aging.
This is part of what gives genuine vintage instruments their particular acoustic response, resonance, feel and character.
Modern guitars can reproduce the dimensions, specifications and construction techniques of the past.
They cannot reproduce sixty years of natural aging of the original wood.
For the serious player, this is more than an aesthetic consideration. The character of genuinely aged wood is one of the reasons why original vintage Fender instruments continue to occupy such a special position among players and collectors.
Instead of investing the substantial amount required to acquire a complete, fully original and untouched 1964 Stratocaster, the buyer has the opportunity to acquire its most important vintage structural components at a fraction of the price of a comparable complete original instrument.
This leaves the new owner free to complete the project according to their own preferences — using period-correct vintage hardware and electronics, carefully sourced original components, or high-quality reproductions — while retaining the authenticity of the two most important pieces of the instrument.
For a knowledgeable collector or builder, this can represent a very compelling way of obtaining genuine pre-CBS Fender DNA without the financial commitment associated with a complete, investment-grade original guitar.
