Gibson Custom Shop Goldtop LP Luthman #9 ( ...the true inspiration for Joe Perrys "Gold Rush" Axess series)
In 2018, Luthman Scandinavia, the Scandinavian importer of Gibson guitars, commissioned a series of 9 unique guitars from the Gibson Custom Shop. They were built after specifications from the head (CEO) of Luthman Scandinavia. The model was based on a ’57 style Goldtop Les Paul, but with only one pickup and a Wilkinson tremolo.
As fate would have it, Aerosmith legend Joe Perry happened to visit the Gibson Custom Shop while this guitar was being readied for shipment. JP saw it, played it, and loved it so much that he had to have one just like it. And so the limited edition Joe Perry “Gold Rush” Les Paul Axcess was born, and the rest is history.
But THIS is the guitar that started it all. As Gibson officially tell it’s story, the JP’s ”Goldrush” LP was constructed in cooperation with JP, but this is in fact not correct. Only 9 guitars were handbuiltbuilt of the Luthman LP, while the JP ”Goldrush” was made in 150 copies of the original Luthman LP. The JP ”Goldrush” is exactly the same instrument as the Luthman LP....or let's say an exact copy of the real Luthman original!
It’s completely handbuilt, with some of the most beautiful aging ever seen on a Gibson, lightweight, and sounds killer. It comes with its original aged Lifton style case. There is no other documentation with the guitar as it’s an unique series, which is also proven by the unique “LUTHMAN 9" serial number. This is a truly unique small series Gibson guitar.
