Hello! You are looking at a RARE Vintage 1939 Martin F-9 Archtop Acoustic Guitar *All Original!*. The F-9 model was introduced in 1935 as Martin's attempt at competing with the top f-hole models that were marketed by Gibson and Epiphone. Originally selling for $250, this top-of-the-line archtop was the most expensive standard model in their pre-WWII shopping catalogs. Because it features a carved top on a rosewood body reminiscent of a flat top, this model was not a commercial success in it's day and only 72 model F-9s were sold before it was discontinued in 1942. While not popular in the commercial market, this guitar has plenty to offer nonetheless. It's projection is immense, it's tone is impressive, and it's response is as crisp as they come! Given it's hasty discontinuation and the fact that many F-9 models have been converted to flat tops, it's no question that this completely original model in such great condition is exceptionally rare. This guitar has been completely serviced and repaired by Cristian Mirabella, one of the most premier, top-of-the-line luthiers in New York. For an 85+ year old original guitar, this beauty is in great shape! The sunburst finish and pearl inlays are stunning as ever. Because this is a vintage guitar, minor imperfections in the finish are present throughout, showing it's age. There are two cracks on either side of the tailpiece that have been completely repaired and do not interfere with the functionality of the instrument. The tailpiece was hand-engraved by what seems to be the original owner. It is in perfect playing condition! The neck is straight and does not require a reset at all. The intonation is lovely and the action is excellent! There is little to no fret wear present, which is hard to find in a guitar of this age! Includes original hard shell case.
