About this listing
2016 Gretsch 6120T-59 VS (Vintage Selection) Edition Chet Atkins® with Bigsby®I bought this guitar second-hand about eight years ago. I've recorded with it a lot, but never gigged with it. The previous owner tried the cosmetic ‘relic’-ing you can see on the upper bout (I think they wanted to recreate a version of the Brian Setzer edition since they also made some rather baffling wiring modifications and removed a switch). My guitar tech has done nothing about the 'relic'-ing, which I have grown to like, but returned the wiring to the original specs and put the original switch back. Other than the relic-ing, the condition is practically as new.Two other modifications:(1) I replaced the original Duane Eddy paddle arm with a Chet Atkins® one. The Chet arm gives much more control and is easier to hook your little finger around. If you'd prefer the paddle arm, just let me know and I can refit it .(2) My tech replaced the stock pick-ups with: (i) a TV Jones Classic + in bridge position; and (ii) a TV Jones SuperTron in neck position. These pickups, when you can get them in the UK, are about £140 each. Note, I've put the stock pickups on another guitar so they are not included in the sale. The pick-ups:° The TV Jones Classic + is like the stock TV Jones FilterTron but is wound with lighter gauge wire which gives a rounder top-end and more output. If there is a hotter bridge pick-up on a Gretsch than the Classic +, then I have yet to hear it.° The TV Jones SuperTron has steel blades instead of pole screws. They provide a larger magnetized surface area which means the resulting tone has the clarity of the original, but with a bolder, broader punch. The guitar features:· Nickel G-arrow control knobs for both the neck and bridge pickups· Nickel G-arrow master volume knob· The classic 3-position 'Master Tone' switch.· Gretsch 'Squeezebox' capacitors· Vintage 'V'-shaped maple neck · 12"-radius 22-fret ebony fingerboard· 1959 'trestle' bracing, which gives an authentic, snappy vintage tone· 'Rocking' bar bridge· Bigsby® B6CVT vibrato tailpiece· Vintage-style genuine bone nut· Aged white binding with black purfling· Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish· Aged pearloid thumbnail inlays· Gretsch logo and nickel Grover® V98 Sta-Tite™ tuning machines· Original Gretsch case with case candyAccording to Gretsch:“The elegant style and refined sound combine to make the G6120-59 Vintage Select Edition Chet Atkins® Hollow Body with Bigsby® a Gretsch aficionado's dream guitar.”I agree.I love this guitar. I hate to sell but I’m downsizing my collection of electrics - I'm primarily an acoustic player - and I know there is a happy home waiting for it somewhere.Note: I have no affiliation with the review in the link provided which, I admit, is a slightly different version of this guitar, but he says all there is to say about these 6120s.
