The AC2 Acoustic Simulator is an original pedal released in 1996, designed to transform the sound of an electric guitar into an imitation of an acoustic guitar. It offers four modes (Standard, Jumbo, Enhanced, and Piezo) as well as Level, Body, and Top controls, allowing adjustments to the volume, resonance, and brightness of the sound. At the time, it was an innovative solution for switching from an electric to an acoustic sound without changing instruments. Today, its performance is considered rather dated: it relies primarily on sophisticated equalization rather than true acoustic modeling, resulting in variable results depending on the guitar, pickups, and amplification used. It is more convincing with single-coil pickups and when plugged directly into a PA system or acoustic amplifier than with an electric guitar amp.
