A vintage piece from the 1960s — a piece of the early history of popular and rock music.

A Stratocaster that can be described as a guitar in original condition. Very few have survived to this day, and there will only be fewer.

Body: alder; neck: maple; fingerboard: rosewood. Finish: nitrocellulose lacquer.

The neck was made in 1966, featuring the large headstock and transition logo; however, based on the number of patent numbers (4), we can assume it was already in production during late 1965 (since later ’65 models had five patents). The pickups and pots are from 1966. Under the pickguard, the body bears the “ES” stamp, meaning the guitar was made for a specific dealer order or exhibition. The tuners are the original double line Kluson Deluxe.

The frets are low and worn, but original. The guitar is fully playable; the neck itself is in excellent condition with a working truss rod. The original pickguard has a crack near the neck pickup. The body shows wear consistent with its age.

A newer 5-way switch is currently installed, with the original 3-way included in the sale. Since this is a common and fully reversible modification, we still classify the guitar as “all original.”
