The Epiphone Kirk Hammett Greeny 1959 Les Paul Standard celebrates a very special instrument that has made music history in many different ways. Hardly any other electric guitar can look back on such an eventful history as the famous '59 Les Paul with the serial number 9 2208, which initially found itself in the hands of Peter Green and was affectionately referred to by him as the 'Magic Guitar'. In the early seventies, he sold it to none other than blues legend Gary Moore, until it finally found its way to Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett in 2014, who still plays it on the world's biggest stages today. Reason enough for Epiphone to make this unique electric guitar available to fans and collectors as part of a special series. including hardshell case!
Following the design of the original 1959 Les Paul, the basic construction of the Epiphone Kirk Hammett Greeny 1959 Les Paul Standard consists of a solid mahogany body, a glued-on maple top with fine AAA-quality curly maple veneer and a one-piece mahogany neck. Thanks to the Custom Greeny profile, the left hand gets an authentic feel from headstock to neck heel, while the 22-fret Laurel fingerboard with 12" radius and the Gibson style headstock with open-book design also follow the traditional guidelines.
Probably the most striking feature of the original Greeny Les Paul was also implemented naturally in the Epiphone Kirk Hammett Greeny 1959 Les Paul Standard: The Gibson Greenybucker in the neck position is both reversed and mounted in reverse, so that in combination with the Gibson Greenybucker in the bridge position it produces the distinctive nasal 'out-of-phase' sound of the original. furthermore, the wiring of the Epiphone Kirk Hammett Greeny 1959 Les Paul Standard is made up of high-quality components such as CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors.
The add-on parts of the Epiphone Kirk Hammett Greeny 1959 Les Paul Standard also reflect the numerous modifications that Greeny has undergone over the decades. The headstock features six Grover Rotomatic tuners with Spade wings, while the poti caps are made up of two amber top hats and two '60s-style caps with metal inserts. For the classic TOM/stop bar combination, the Epiphone Kirk Hammett Greeny 1959 Les Paul Standard relies on an Epiphone ABR Tune-o-Matic bridge and a LockTone stop bar for direct resonance transmission into the body.
